The film stars Vin Diesel, John Cena, Michelle Rodriguez, Tyres Gibson, Chris "Ludacris" Bridges, Jordana Brewster, Nathalie Emanuel, Sung Kong, Helen Mirren, and Charlize Theron.
Originally scheduled for a 2020 release, the film is scheduled for release on April 2, 2021, due to the COVID-19 epidemic.

Principal Photography opens on 24 June 2019 at the Leavesden Studio in Hertfordshire, England. Filming took place on November 11, 2019.
In July 2019, stuntman Joe Watts, who doubled over for Diesel, suffered a severe head injury while filming at Lewis Studios. In September 2020, Michelle Rodriguez confirmed that the film would also be set in an open space, played by Diesel.
